Abstract
Comparative studies of serologic tests for syphilis between the routine tests for regain with venereal disease research laboratory (VDRL), modified KolmerWassermann complement fixation test, and antitre poneme antibodies with FTA ABS to their specificity and sensitivity on 205 sera specimens deliberately selected from 932 prostitute¢¥s sera. The results were compared with the rate of agreement among each other test, and the following results were obtained.
1. Comparison of results of the VDRL to FTA-ABS is given in Table 3. For 38 VDRL positive sera; in which FTA-ABS in agreement was 71. 5%, and disagreement was 28.5%. For 90 VDRL doubtful sera, in which 53.3% was reactive to FTA-ABS, and 77 VDRL negative sera, in which 3.9% was reactive to FTAABS.
2. Comparison of results of, the modified Kolmer-Wassermann test to FTA-ABS is given in Table 6. For 110. modified Kolmer-Wassermann positive sera, in which. 69. 1% was reactive to FTA-ABS, and disagreement was 30.9%. For 95 modified Kolmer-Wassermann negative sera, in which 5.3% was reactive to FTA-ABS.
3. By these results in this experiment, authors proposed following a test scheme that the first serum was subjected to VDRL, cardiolipin complement fixation test and finaly confirmed by the method of FTA-ABS, is promising as a practical method for serodiagnosis of syphilis.
